What is included in the program?

We will provide a two-week Vietnamese language course, between July and September 2021 for students coming from UMAP member universities. 

Why should you join the program at Tra Vinh university?

  • To develop your communicative competence in Vietnamese in a variety of situations. The program will also equip students with strategies and skills of language learning to encourage a positive attitude and to build up confidence in communicative situations. Interestingly, this raises students’ socio-cultural awareness through developing an understanding of interpersonal relationships in a Vietnamese setting, Vietnamese lifestyles and aspects of Vietnamese culture, traditions and customs.
  • To participate in field trips for cultural exchange in the local’s unique tourist attractions: Con Chim Island, Ba Om Pond, Khmer pagodas and museums, Ho Chi Minh Temple, night market, etc. to learn about local history and experience native people’s lifestyle as well as to play traditional games and try local delicious specialties such as wax coconut, banh xeo, banh tet,…
  • To widen your relationships with local and international students. We arrange activities with students from the Khmer Language and Culture Department, Tra Vinh University in which you will watch local student’s performance with ethnic traditional music equipment. We also offer students an opportunity to participate  as a host for the university’s English Speaking Club which promises an exciting language exchange. Participating students will have an opportunity to try different and tasty traditional dishes in a cooking contest.
  • To explore the lush and beautiful countryside of Tra Vinh, a province located on the coast of the Mekong Delta which is known for sea and river tourism, coastal floating dunes specializing in specialty orchards, and  
  • To study the cultural identity of an area with three mixed ethnic groups Kinh, Khmer, and Hoa and to visit some of the hundreds of Khmer pagodas with unique architecture across districts, towns and cities in the province.
  • To enjoy fresh air and feel the peaceful lifestyle of residents who are extremely friendly, hospitable, honest, helpful and hard working. The people of Tra Vinh are also known for being gentle and orderly. It is not a rare sight to see someone waiting alone at a red light for their turn to cross, even in the rain with no cross traffic.

(TVU) – In mid-December, Tra Vinh Provincial Vietnam-Canada Friendship Association held a conference to review the Association’s affairs in 2019 and set up its direction in 2020 at TVU main campus.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, Provincial Party Committee member, TVU Secretary of Party Committee, TVU Rector, Chairman of Tra Vinh Provincial Vietnam – Canada Friendship Association chaired the conference.

In his welcome speech, the chairman of the Association emphasized the importance of bilateral investment cooperation in promoting the friendship between the two countries.

In the past year, the Association successfully completed its professional missions including admitting 32 new members, carrying out many meaningful activities for the community, organizing events for sharing learning experience between Canadian volunteers and its students.
Discussing about the Association’s orientation in 2020, one of delegates proposed that the Association needs to expand its membership in the districts of Tra Vinh province, and fundraise to help it run more effectively.

“Basing on the achievement in 2019, the Association is going to continue to promote initiatives and flexibility in research activities, and enhance the effectiveness of investment cooperation to contribute to the socio-economic development of the province, the region and the country”, said Mr. Kim Sang, Vice Chairman of the Association.


(TVU)– On February 3, Associ. Prof. Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, TVU Rector and TVU Rector Board as well as representatives of departments warmly congratulated six new Associate Professors working at TVU. 

Three among six new Associate Professors are in School of Economics and Law including Associ. Prof. Dr. Diep Thanh Tung, Dean; Associ. Prof. Dr. Huynh Quang Linh, Deputy Dean; and Associ. Prof. Dr.  Nguyen Hong Ha, Director of Department of Finance and Banking. 

The rest are Associ. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thai Son, Dean of School of Engineering and Technology; Associ. Prof. Dr. Vo Thi Kim Thanh and Associ. Prof. Dr. Phan Quoc Anh, TVU lecturers. 

This is a great recognition for their wonderful contribution to the development of Tra Vinh University in particular and the country in general.

Speaking at the ceremony, the new associate professors expressed their pleasure for their academic contribution recognized by Vietnam Council of Professors. 

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Diep Thanh Tung said: “Achieving the title of associate professor is our honor; however, it is also a big challenge that requires us to constantly strive for the educational affairs.”


(TVU) – In the morning of December 5th, the opening ceremony of The First VietPhil Research Forum 2019 “Enabling Career Mobility for Students in Global Integration” was taken place at Tra Vinh University (TVU) main campus.

The forum was co-hosted by Tra Vinh University and Palompon Institute of Technology, and Southern Leyte State University, Philippines with attendances of domestic and foreign scientists and lecturers. 

The forum aims to share results and experience of scientific research which contributes to the solutions for increasing career mobility for students after graduation in the period of international integration.

There are a total of 47 reports and the four keynote speeches including “Increasing Employment Opportunities for Students from Rural Universities in the World Labor Market” by Dr. Phillip M. Adams, Visiting Professor, TVU; “A University-wide Integration of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to Improve Campus Management and Enhance Academic Capability of Southern Leyte State University (SLSU)” by Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes, University President, Southern Leyte State University; “Enabling Career Mobility for students in Global Integration” by Dr. Dennis A. Alonzo, School of Education, University of New South Wales, Australia; and “Partnerships and Job Mobility in Global Integration” by Dr. Virginia Salvino Beltran, Vice President, Palompon Institue of Technology. 

At the forum, Dr. Phillip M. Adams said: “In the 4.0 era, graduates must face ever-increasing demands on competitiveness, work readiness, and overall suitability in the global labor market; and graduates’ success depends on the international success of universities and governments.”

 “The forum is a great opportunity for scientists and lecturers of TVU and universities to exchange experience and achievement in scientific research. In this globalized world, employment has gone far beyond the national scale and crossed the border; therefore, job mobility should be considered as the primary focus of each individual”, said Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoa, TVU Vice-Rector. 

After the forum, Dr. Dennis A. Alonzo also provided the training “Building teachers’ assessment techniques to enhance learning effectiveness” to TVU lecturers. 

Ngoc Thu – Quoc Vinh

(TVU)-Last December 2019, Tra Vinh University (TVU) and Okayama Business College (OBC) signed a MoU on academic and cultural exchange activities in Japan. 

The MoU scope is agreed on Japanese training, nursing training, Vietnam-Japan cultural activities, and student and faculty member exchange. As planed in early 2020, OBC lecturers will be sent to TVU for Japanese language instruction and cultural activity engagement. 

 The two parties will select TVU potential candidates in nursing to work at Japanese hospitals.  Besides, OBC will offer 10 full scholarships every year for TVU students in this field to assist them with studying in Japan.  

This agreement is going to promote exchange activities, improve TVU students’ Japanese proficiency and enhance cultural exchange programs. 

Taking this opportunity,  TVU delegation also worked with Okayama Trade Board and Citac Corporation. The parties agreed on some collaborative activities consisting of Japanese training and necessary skills preparation that will help TVU students work in Caitac corporation and Japanese companies in the future. 

Minh Nhut

(TVU) – On December 9, 2019, Tra Vinh University continued to receive the quality accreditation based on AUN-QA (ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance) for two more undergraduate programs including Aquaculture and Veterinary which were assessed in last October. 

Along with the two internationally accredited programs, in last November, TVU was eligible to be offered the two certificates of the quality recognition by the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam and Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA).

The new set of criteria of quality assessment issued by Ministry of Education and Training includes 25 standards with 111 criteria, according to four areas including strategic quality assurance, system quality assurance, quality assurance on performing functions (training, scientific research, community service), and performance results. 

The four degree programs accredited by FIBAA include accounting, business administration, economics, and finance – banking. 

Up to present, TVU has had six training programs to be accredited based on international quality accreditation standards. Furthermore, the university commits to gradually standardize training programs based on international quality. Namely, TVU is planning to be assessed on the programs of engineering and technology based on ABET standards.

ASEAN University Network (AUN)

ASEAN University Network (AUN) recognizes the importance of quality in higher education, and the need to develop a holistic quality assurance system to raise academic standards and enhance education, research and service among its member universities. In 1998, it mooted the AUN-QA Network which led to the development of AUN-QA models. Since then, the network has been promoting, developing, and implementing quality assurance practices based on an empirical approach where quality assurance practices are tested, evaluated, improved and shared.

FIBAA (Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation)

FIBAA is a nationally as well as internationally experienced non-profit agency for quality assurance. Customer-oriented, efficient, fast and flexible work are some of its trademarks. FIBAA is accredited by the German Accreditation Council since 2000 (re-accreditation in 2005, 2007, 2012 and 2017, respectively for 5 years).
